I am Monjer Rashid, Programme Manager, Solar Learning Services and The Urban Games.

We are working with Internationally renowned Prodigal Theatre Company, aka Urban Playground, to prepare a 10 minute performance for the opening of the Olympic Torch Relay celebration events, Newcastle Quayside, Friday 15th June 2012.
A collaboration of dancers, and free runners, expressing themselves through a theatrical display of movements, tricks and flips. Quality and detail are of huge importance, and so the costumes, the soundtrack and the choreography are all custom-made for the showcase. This will truly be an amazing display of the hidden talent in the NE.
You can find out more about the performance and how you can get involved in our activities by visiting www.theurbangames.org.uk
The North East certainly does have talent!!
The project is funded by Newcastle City Council and the Newcastle Gateshead Initiative.

The exhibition which is on the 24th May 2012, is going to be based at The Holy Biscuit in Newcastle, and the whole point of the exhibition is to show art pieces that everyone in the Youth forum have made to highlight perceptions of Youth.
This includes photos which we took during our OCN course in Journalism skills with Headliners, the art work pieces that we did in the Graffiti workshop with Frank Styles, and also a DVD which the lovely Faye Willis (Cramlington Voluntary Youth Project Youth Worker) has helped us create pulling together footage from start to the end of Our Say, Our Way and footage from our recent residential to London where we did some joint graffiti work with SE1 United at London’s Southbank.
The original inspiration came from Rosie, Nicole and Becca from Deckham. They produced a piece of art representing the ‘hoody nation’ and negative media stereotypes of young people. They included a mirror where the hoody’’s face should be which encourages people looking at it to ask ‘what do you see?’ What their perception is of young people who wear hoody’s. This came from a collection of different ideas which the girls had thought about over a few sessions
Before we made the final art work piece the youth forum took part in a graffiti workshop to look at different graffiti techniques to make the art piece look amazing! We’ve also done some smaller pieces which are going to be shown on the day.
We are going to The Holy Biscuit as a whole group next week to see the venue and have a better understanding of how we can exhibit our art pieces to get the biggest impact!

Can the Olympic re-fit, lick of paint and new facilities in East London bring an air of harmony to the area, and will it stay after the Games have finished?
Headliners reporters Nyomi, Precious and Gabrielle speak to the young people that will have to live with the legacy of the Games.
