Pump it project at Sans Street

May30

Hi I’m Jamal, 16, i’m currently on a 20 week voluntary course called the Pump it Project at Sans Street Youth Centre.

Before this course I wasnt 100% sure what my future career was going to be, but I sat down with one of the Youth Workers and talked about what I’m interested in. My passion is music and I said I’d be interested in working at concerts and travelling the world working at gigs and music festivals.

I’ve done some voluntary work at The Bunker- this is a recording studio in Sunderland and they have shown me how to set up a PA system by myself. I’m learning how to manage the sound as people are performing.

Sans Street Young Team

May30
Hi,
We’re Georgia and Becky, both 21. We’re part of the Peer Educators team at Sans Street Youth & Community Centre.
Before we worked here we were both volunteer Youth Workers at our local youth projects, Pallion Action Group and YMCA, who introduced us to the job vacancy and helped with our CV and interveiw tecnuiques.

Our roles

We started our role here at Sans Street in September 2011 so far we have gained a lot more experience and a load of qualifications, such as;
Sports Leaders, Family Nurturing, Brief Alcohol intervention (NECA), Smoking Cessation Advisor Training (NECA), Money management, Emotional Resilience (MIND), Health Improvment. We’re also undergoing our Level 2 Qualification in Youth & Play Work.
We have been on residentials, worked at youth club drop ins, up our local schools on a dinner time and joint events. We are planning our next joint event which is olympic themed and we are looking forward to it.

Next steps

Our role ends in August this year. We hope to find a permanant job in Youth Work when we leave so we can pass on our experience and knowledge that we have gained here at Sans Street. We also want to gain more experience and get more qualifications to help us progress as Youth Workers.
